According to the World Health Organization, an average of Rs. 6500 per person was lost in India due to lack of cleanliness and hygiene. If we make Sanitation a public movement, we can make our country being counted as one among the cleanest nations.

The FINISH Project
The FINISH project was conceived by its promoters - TATA-AIG, SNS-REAAL, UNU-MERIT, WASTE and a leading microfinance company in India in the year 2009 with a vision of creating a society with improved health not only through better sanitation facilities but also with knowledge and awareness of 'Total Sanitation'.
The overall objective of the Financial Inclusion Improves Sanitation and Health (FINISH) programme is "to improve sanitation and thereby, living and economic conditions of poor rural and peri-urban households, through economic incentives, primarily enhancing financial inclusion of these households." The programme is designed with four sub-objectives vide:
- To provide sanitation facilities at the household level through a combination of micro-credits by MFIs/Banks etc, subsidies as well as self contribution (capacities are also built under the programme) and health insurance incentives.
- To establish a financially sustainable sanitation improvement mechanism through public private partnership.
- To develop information resource base for future programmes and demonstrable indicators linking health and sanitation.
- To provide livelihood benefits to poorer sections and mainstream gender aspects.
FINISH Society executes the FINISH project in association with various partners like NGOs, Microfinance Institutions, cooperatives etc. The program encourages individual household participation by facilitating access to financial support under financial inclusion. Under the project, FINISH has facilitated construction of more than 3.5 lacs safe sanitation systems so far and has a mission to reach 500,000 sanitation systems by 2016.
FINISH Society has also implemented sanitation programs for construction of Safe Sanitations for Individual Households, Schools etc in partnership with Government, Agencies and Corporates.
